Biography
Josep Brugada studied medicine at the University of Barcelona before moving to the University of Montpellier, France, to specialize in cardiology. He continued his training in Maastricht to further specialize in the clinical and basic aspects of cardiac arrhythmias, where he worked simultaneously in the Basic and the Clinical Electrophysiology Laboratory. Professor Brugada then became Assistant Professor of the University of Limburg and was the first foreign Established Investigator of the Dutch Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences. Currently, Professor Brugada is Senior Consultant of Cardiology at the Hospital Clinic Barcelona where he served as Medical Director from 2008 to 2014. Professor of the University of Barcelona, he is also Director of the Paediatric Arrhythmia Unit at Sant Joan de Deu Hospital. This 2015, Professor Brugada won the prestigious award "Rey Jaime I" in the "Clinical Medicine" category.
