Biography

Dr. Domenico Corrado is Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine, University of Padua Medical School, Padova , Italy and Director of the Heart Rhythm Center and the Inherited Arrhythmogenic Cardiomyopathies Unit, Division of Cardiology, University of Padova, Italy. Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology. Past President (2012-204) of the Section of Sports Cardiology, of the European Association of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation of the European Society of Cardiology and Past President of the Italian Society of Sports Cardiology.

His contribution to the scientific literature include over 200 peer-reviewed publications in Cardiological topics (including papers in the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, JAMA, Circulation and Journal of American College of Cardiology) with a total Impact Factor of over 1000. He is a Reviewer of most international Cardiological Journals. He his a recognized authority in the field of inherited cardiomyopathies and prevention of sudden cardiac death in young people and athletes and is often invited to speak at European, North-American and Asian Medical Centres and Symposia.

His major scientific achievements include:1) Identification of the causes of sudden death in young people and athletes; 2) Characterization of genetic and pathological bases, clinical- ECG manifestations, diagnostic criteria, risk stratification and treatment strategies of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy; 3) Demonstration that ECG screening prevent sudden death during sports; 4) Development of modern criteria for interpretation of athlete's ECG at preparticipation screening; 5) Study of cause-effect relationships between myocardial edema by cardiac magnetic resonance and ECG abnormalities and arrhythmias in tako tsubo cardiomyoapthy.

He is Coordinator of the International Registry of Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy/Dysplasia; and Coordinator of the Veneto Region of Italy, Registry of Brugada Syndrome.
